people pleaser.

Be Yourself. Everyone else is taken.
-Oscar Wilde

We all have our own personal tendencies, attitudes, personalities and quirks. To what degree should we censor these in order to satisfy those around us?

Obviously, this is more of an issue for people who are naturally accomdating. People like this flex according to what others might think of them. Admittedly, sometimes I can be a bit of a ‘people pleaser’ myself and can be very aware about people around me. It doesn’t help that I tend to overanalyse everything, which can magnify even the smallest hypothetical situations……

Anyway. Point is…there’s no way to satisfy everyone out there. Even for people who are complete attention-phobes, there’s bound to be someone who takes notice and dislikes you. Be it your mannerisms, your physical appearance, or [offensively enough], your entire personality–someone’s going to loathe ’em.

The only opinions which REALLY matter are from those know your Ins and Outs very well. These people can give constructive, well-informed critique that can be taken to heart. On the other hand…if someone who is ignorant to your entire character speculates and hates you—well, be comforted knowing that his/her views are simply ignorant speculations. Why should you alter your character in order to satisfy those who haven’t even expended an ounce of energy to understand you?

Obviously some sort of balance must be achieved in the midst of this all though…just because I believe these things doesn’t mean I will go around and ignore everyone’s thoughts. I mean…if MASSES of strangers repeatedly pointed out particular faults, I wouldn’t shrug them off as ignorant remarks.

Anyway. Live your life, people.
You only have one.
