daily doodle #17

For today’s doodle, I worked on draft 2 of the 1-page comic I’ll be rendering over the next week.
Done the rough thumbs and I can finally start final inking!

I do wish I had more panels to show Chip disembarking from his dad’s shoulders (last two panels), but the purpose of this exercise is to mimic a sunday funnies comic restrained to one page. If I were to undertake something like this again, I would probably move the title to the side/top of the page to make more panel room.

I’m not particularly interested in creating short, slap-sticky comic strips. The purpose of this exercise is for me to practise creating panel layouts, gutters, lettering and inking.

For interest’s sake, daily doodle #7 was character design for the little boy in this very comic.
