1) To learn & practise the underlying fundamentals of Illustration
2) To illustrate faster (without compromising quality) as a result of 1
3) To improve storytelling and create realistic, imaginative environments
Alongside my recreational art pursuits, I’m hacking my way through various technical art resources. I’ll avidly take notes, study and practise from various books, blogs and videos.
I’ve learned some of these concepts organically through hours of unguided illustration. However, I realise that it’s valuable to cultivate solid understanding behind the way things ‘should be’ illustrated. Learning all these concepts will save myself hours of guessing and checking. Beyond this, I hope to improve overall as an artist by sharpening my core skills.
We’re so fortunate to be living in a generation with seemingly endless resources. Inspiration and instruction is openly available from the very top notch in industry. With data more accessible than ever, knowledge is literally at our fingertips. It seems our biggest task is to avoid being paralysed by the sheer number of resources to choose from. At any rate, I’m up for the challenge. I’m ready to mature as an artist by focusing on each resource at time.
Let’s do this!
